Norii stau așezați ca bolovaniii grei pe umerii mei
Privirea mea tulbure în furtuna de nisip
care-mi inundă plămânii cu fiecare respirație
Marele Zid este încă în picioare?
În aer vocea unui eunuc erupe un decret
Oricine va scrie poezie în timp ce cară bolovani
va fi bătut până la sânge
Sfârșitul decretului!
Privind în sus văd o față ștearsă
mâini reci, ochi de plumb, voce împietrită
Acoperișul unui far purpuriu
pare să aibă sabia însângerată a unui dragon albastru la gât
Îmi îndoi spatele să duc lumina soarelui departe
Împing din picioare să trimit vântul departe
Orice ca să ajung aproape de floarea
vie legănată de puternicul vânt
Majestate/ Domnule/ Raport către tovarășul…
Acest subofițer/ cetățean/ umilul…
Își va îndeplini datoriile
Fie că este aceasta înălțimea cerului
sau adâncimea abisului
Eu simt doar sfichiul aprins al biciului tău pe spate
Pe piatră gri, sudoarea călătorilor
înflorește în maci
Notes Taken at the Great Wall
Clouds are stacked like heavy boulders on my shoulders
My eyes blurring in the blowing sands
which fill my lungs with every breath
Is the Great Wall still being built?
In the air the voice of a eunuch blasts out a decree
Anyone who creates poetry while carrying boulders
will be beaten until they spew out blood
End of decree!
Looking up I see a sagging face
cold hands, leaden eyes, gravel voice
The roof of a beacon tower in crimson red
bares the shape of a bloody blue dragon saber on his neck
I bend my back to cart sunlight away
I thrust my legs to cart wind away
Anything to get near that flower
waving lively in strong wind.
Your Majesty / Dear Sir / Reporting to Comrade...
This lowly officer / base citizen / humble self...
will fulfill his responsibilities
Whether this is the top of sky
or bottom of abyss
I only feel your burning whip lash on my back
On gray stone, travelers’ sweat
blooms into poppies.

Mây xếp lên vai từng tảng đá nặng
nhòe mắt cát
thở đầy ngực cát
Vạn lý Trường Thành còn xây dở?
Trên không tiếng hoạn quan truyền chỉ
Bắt được kẻ nào vừa vác đá vừa làm thơ
đánh hộc máu mồm
Khâm thử!
Ngước lên gặp một khuôn mặt bì bì
tay lạnh, mắt chì, giọng mỡ
Mái Phong hỏa đài* màu huyết dụ
hình thanh long đao dính máu đang kề cổ
Còng lưng đẩy nắng đi
Chồn chân đẩy gió đi
Miễn sao gần được bông hoa
đang mởn mơ trong gió lớn.
Tâu Hoàng thượng/ thưa ngài/ báo cáo đồng chí....
Bỉ chức/ thảo dân/ em…
sẽ làm trọn bổn phận
Đây là đỉnh trời
hay đáy vực sâu
chỉ thấy trên lưng lằn roi bỏng rát
Mồ hôi du khách trên đá xám
nở thành hoa phù dung.
